EMDR Therapy in Alpharetta & Throughout Georgia
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy designed to help you process and heal from distressing experiences without needing to relive every detail. Originally developed for trauma and PTSD, EMDR has since evolved into a versatile tool used to support anxiety, grief, chronic stress, phobias, and emotional overwhelm.
What makes EMDR different from traditional talk therapy is that it works directly with the brain’s natural healing process. Using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds), EMDR helps your brain reprocess memories that have gotten “stuck” in fight, flight, or freeze.
EMDR doesn’t require you to rehash your past. It instead helps you safely access the emotional and somatic (body-based) memory of a moment—so it can finally be completed, integrated, and released.
Why choose EMDR?
Because you’ve already tried to think your way through it.
So many people come to us after months or years of trying to “understand” their pain. They’ve journaled, processed, meditated, and reflected. They know the story. They know what happened. But they’re still feeling the effects in their body.
✔ Maybe you freeze up at unexpected moments, even when you logically know you're safe
✔ Maybe your anxiety lingers no matter how much self-talk you do
✔ Maybe something inside just doesn’t feel resolved, even after all the work you’ve done
EMDR helps move you out of looping and into resolution. It supports your nervous system in doing what it was designed to do: complete the stress response and return to a regulated, grounded state.
How does it work?
Somatic. Nervous system-informed. Gentle. Empowering.
At Origins, we do EMDR a little differently. Our therapists are trained through the Trauma Therapists Institute, which means we approach EMDR with a strong foundation in nervous system regulation, attachment safety, and somatic awareness.
What does that mean for you?
✔ You’ll never be pushed to go faster than your system is ready for
✔ We prioritize emotional safety over rigid protocols
✔ You’ll learn to track your body’s signals and trust its pace
✔ Sessions are guided with intention, presence, and grounding throughout
We facilitate EMDR as a whole-person, embodied experience.
What can EMDR help with?
EMDR can be life-changing if you are navigating:
✔Anxiety that feels stuck in your body
✔Traumatic memories or difficult life events
✔Chronic pain or illness with emotional layers
✔High-functioning burnout or freeze states
✔Ongoing grief or unresolved loss
✔A childhood that felt unpredictable or overwhelming
✔Feeling like your body is still bracing for something that already happened
Even if you’re not sure what your “trauma” is, your nervous system might be telling the story for you. You don’t need to have a single defining event…many of our clients come to EMDR with complex histories, ongoing stress, or the quiet weight of things never spoken.
